Experience |
A "Son of the Rock" (i.e. born within
sight of Stirling Castle), Ron was educated at Dollar Academy
then, after two years National Service in the Royal Army Ordinance
Corp as a public relations photographer, trained and, for 10 years,
worked as a Medical Photographer with the University of Edinburgh
Medical School before returning home in 1970 to join the University of Stirling Deptartment
of Education in charge of the Audio Visual Unit.
Over the years the AVA Unit gained for its clients many awards
and honourable mentions for their presentations throughout the
world.
After more than 40+ years of providing every imaginable kind of
presentation support material, Ron has a wealth of practical experience
on which to draw, having first applied computers in this field
as early as 1988.
He moved to Information Services in 1993 making this wide experience
in design and display matters available for training anyone wishing
to use computer facilities in this aspect of their work. For several
years Ron was in charge of the Computer & Media Services Training
Suite for students and staff, located initially in the Library
building and latterly in the Cottrell building.
The generation of graphical images from data in spreadsheet and
databases and the use of these and other image types in word processed
documents, together with considerations of graphic design matters
in desktop publishing are areas where you might seek assistance
from Ron.
The explosive growth of electronic publishing on the Internet
using the World Wide Web has created another area where Ron's
skills and experience can be of use, particularly when preparing
images from existing graphic material or photographic slides,
negatives or prints in colour or monochrome.
The rapid growth in popularity of digital cameras has provided
another area where specialist knowledge is required to achieve
best results, especially when it comes to using the images captured.
Ron has kept up-to-date on this emerging technology and can provide
assistance with incorporating digital pictures into DTP and presentation
applications with particular consideration for the intended m
